CCTC APPROVED AS "ELECTRICIAN TRAINEE" TRAINER

The California Apprenticeship Council (CAC) took a vote at their December 8, 2005 emergency meeting. The following was approved:

  1. The date for required certification was not extended.  Electricians working for a C-10 contractor are required to be certified by January 1, 2006 with the following exceptions.

  1. Those individuals who have mailed their application to take the test by December 30, 2005 have until June 1, 2006 to pass the test.

  2. Individuals not yet qualified to take the test or who have not applied to take the test must enroll as an Electrical Trainee.  An electrical trainee must do three things:

1. Submit an Electrician Trainee Application to the DAS. There is a $25.00 annual fee associated with this application.

2. Submit proof that he or she has enrolled in an approved training program; or, submit proof that he or she attempted to enroll in an approved program.  Applicants who live outside 70 miles of an approved school are not required to meet this requirement.  It should also be noted that the Construction Craft Training Center was approved at the December 8, 2005 meeting.  The program is referred to as Eden ROP/Construction Craft Training Center, School #109.

3. The Electrician Trainee must work for a C-10 contractor where a certified electrician will supervise the electrician trainee on a one-one ratio.

Note: The nonresidential lighting technician and Voice-Data-Video technicians still have until January 1, 2007 to be certified.

Electricians in an approved electrical program can continue to work in accordance with their program requirements. An apprentice is someone who is registered in a State Approved Apprenticeship Program.
