Skills Assessment TestingMost of today's construction workforce lacks formal training and/or credentials having received most or all of their training through on-the-job experience. This has created a problem for employers and property owners as to what skills the employee actually has. The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), in conjunction with various other construction associations has created the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program (NCACP). This program offers assessment testing of an employee's skills based off of a standard determined for the specific trade being assessed. This testing can be used to help in the determination of whether or not to employ an individual, as evidence of an employee's qualification to an owner or government agency, or to support a skill pay raise. The program offers benefits to both the employee as well as the employer/owner. First a permanent transcript is created which documents the skills that the employee has successfully completed. Second, for those skills that an employee was not able to pass, a recommendation for additional instruction is supplied to help the employee plan for his further education. The Construction Craft Training Center is an accredited NCCER testing facility for the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program (NCACP). Assessments tests are given by appointment only.
